Parents unable to check school places allocation after website glitch

Parents across Surrey and London have been unable to check online which schools their children have been allocated to after a glitch in the admissions website.

Pan London admission systems, a website where residents from Surrey, the 33 London boroughs and six other local authorities, can apply for school places, has been unavailable since 7am this morning.

A notice on Surrey County Council’s website read: “Due to technical difficulties Pan London is currently unavailable March 2, 2010. We are liaising with the site provider to keep you informed. We will update this page as soon as we are notified of any changes to the current situation.”

A spokesman for Surrey Council said there was nothing else they could do since the website is not controlled by them.

This is Ridiculous. They had every other day this year to have a problem. Could they not predict the increase in volume for the site Today!!!! Why did they not have a backup Plan (i.e. simple printed spreadsheets with a application number and school Alocated, no personal info needed to be on the sheets). How much did they spend building the system. what is the point of advertising a date if the system crashes on that day. And yes ONE DAY does matter!!!
