By Community Correspondent Andrew Voneshen - At this point, writing about the rather arctic weather of late, much less how much I’ve enjoyed it, seems like a poor move. After all, the recent snowfall has played havoc with our transport system, lost the economy million of pounds and sent more than a few of us home with bruises (or worse) due to the ice. But I can’t help it; something about snow just brings out the kid in me - and I suspect that I’m not alone in this.
Putting the negatives aside, I’ve found the snow to have been great; it’s been something that has brought a lot of people together, and allowed people the chance to do things that ordinarily life is just a bit too hectic to manage. It’s a great thing to see, families and friends just going out and enjoying the snow, because, in a way, it’s given us no other real alternative.
I think my favourite part of the last couple of weeks has been watching all the various creative snowmen and other structures that people have created; all you have to do is walk down the street and you can see a huge variety of snow sculptures; it’s something that’s so easy to do, yet at the same time is expressive and individual. The snow has caused a lot of disruption; but maybe this is part of the reason why so many of us love it.
